Flexible duct installation

Installation within a bulkhead that will have ceiling tiles in a drop down ceiling. This type of installation is not covered over by drywall, which means that no access panel will be required by code.

InstallationThe hotpod™ will be professionally installed by a local heating and cooling contractor in existing ductwork, hard wired and controlled by a standard heating or cooling thermostat. |
HeatingHeating is achieved by energizing the heating element and using its own internal fan to deliver warm air to the room. |
CoolingCooling is achieved by using the internal fan to deliver conditioned air from the main ducts and or other conditioned areas, until the desired temperature is reached. |
Quiet Operation The hotpod™ can be equipped with the optional Silent Boot™, (sold separately) so the hotpod™
operates incredibly quiet. (The Silent Boot™ can
also be used with any existing ductwork to reduce noise.) |
| Can be used as a back-up heat system: | ||
Three
to four unitsBy adding three to four units in key areas, hotpod™ will keep the average-sized, 1,600 sq. feet home at a safe temperature. |
If
the Main Heating System FailsThis system will independently maintain a reasonable temperature for a home in the event of a main heating system failure. |

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
CHOOSE LOCATION (FIGURE 1)
Install HotPod™ in horizontal position ONLY. If using the optonal Silent Boot, select a 14" (35.6 cm) section of duct (or 15-1/2" if a male end of duct will be re-used and inserted into the HotPod) that is a MINIMUM of 4 feet (122 cm) from outlet register.

INSTALL HOTPOD™
Remove section of duct.
FOR RIGID METAL DUCT
FOR FLEXIBLE DUCT
Support HotPod™ on both ends with duct hangers or perforated straps. Vibration reduction is recommended.
INSTALL WIRING
Install a 24-VAC heating and cooling thermostat.
WARNING
REMOVE POWER FROM 120 VAC CIRCUIT SELECTED. DO NOT ENERGIZE CIRCUIT UNTIL ALL CONNECTIONS ARE MADE AND HOTPOD™ WIRING ENCLOSURE IS CLOSED AFTER INSTALLATION.

Remove wiring cover. Following all local
codes, connect 120 VAC, 15 amp dedicated circuit. Provide
strain relief for all wiring.
A. Black/hot
wire to “L1 in” terminal.
B. White/neutral wire to “NEUTL.” terminal.
C. Green or ground wire to green housing ground screw.
Connect thermostat wire to circuit board:
D. Red/hot wire
to “R” terminal.
E. White/heating wire to “W” terminal.
F. Yellow or green, cooling/fan wire to “Y/G” terminal.
G. Blue/common wire to “C” terminal when applicable.
TEST
Apply power to the 120 VAC circuit.
Turn room thermostat to maximum heat. Check for
HotPod™ Fan and Heater operation.
Note: You may notice a slight odor the first time you use HotPod™. This is normal as the heat oxidizes coatings used to protect metal surfaces. Odor will dissipate after several uses.

Thermostat Required:
A low voltage or line voltage thermostat is required to be installed in each room that a HotPod is located. Most inexpensive standard household thermostats such as the White-Rodgers 1F78-151 will work or use the UT8003 thermostat that is included with every HotPod:

UT8003 thermostat
Optionally, using a thermostat with a second stage of heat (2 Heat/1 Cool) will allow the HotPod to turn on the fan only first during a call for heat (bring on the fan in stage one). Two stage heat can be achieved with an appropriate thermostat (consult an electrician for proper thermostats and wiring). This can potentially bring the temperature in the room up without energizing the heating coil, by drawing in warmer air from other rooms/ventilation system (similar to the cooling feature of the HotPod.) If the set-point is not reached within a time determined by the thermostat, the heater will come on. The White-Rodgers 1F82-261 Thermostat is recomended by TPI, Inc. for operating the Hotpod in a “two stage heat mode” when the thermostat is set to "Heat". First stage heating is the HotPod fan only operation re-distributing warmer air from other areas. Second stage heating will turn on the heating elements in the HotPod. When the thermostat is set to "Emer" then the HotPod functions on the second stage only, with the heating coils energized whenever the HotPod fan is running. The 1F82-261 can be used in this way with the following wiring: White to W2, Green to Y and G (install a jumper wire at the thermostat between the “Y” and the “G” terminals), Red to R, Blue to C.
