History of Mor Electric Heating Mor Electric Heating was established in 1958 by Maury Otterbacher, then a salesman of Chromalox products for the Carmen Adams Co. of Detroit, Michigan. He was a pioneer for introducing residential electric heating into the West Michigan area. Over the years, emphasis shifted from 80% of the business being residential sales to the current 80% industrial heating products. The company was incorporated in 1969 and has since shown steady growth in both sales and employees. Maury retired in 1986 and the business was purchased by his son-in-law, Alan Kracker who had joined the company in 1978. Al’s’ wife, Deitz Kracker, joined the company in 1987 when they began running the business as a management/technical team. In 1985 we were introduced to a new form of heat, a ceramic infrared heater produced by Infrared Internationale Ltd. of the United Kingdom. We began distributing this product and soon found a large market readily acceptable. Though the heater had been well established in many other countries, there was no formal distribution network in the United States. Because of our success in selling the heaters and their compatibility with our other product lines, a bond of friendship and confidence began to grow between Mor Electric Heating and Infrared Internationale Ltd. Following two years of negotiations, in 1992, Mor Electric Heating purchased a licensing agreement with Infrared Internationale Ltd. through their acting company, Infrared Internationale Engineering Ltd., to manufacture the Salamander heater in the United States with exclusive distributing rights to Canada, the United States and Central America. Infrared Internationale of North America Ltd. was formed and a factory constructed within the Mor Electric facility in Comstock Park, Michigan. In 1993, Deitz began writing and distributing the monthly publication called The Salamander News with international readership which was devoted entirely to the Infrared Ceramic Heating product. In 2003 this newsletter was expanded to include the related products and information from Mor Electric which doubled its distribution. In 1998 our website was designed and put on the internet by our Marketing Manager, Terry Beasecker. This drastically changed Mor Electric’s place in the market moving us from a Western Michigan company into global sales. We began e-commerce in 2000 which not only increased our national sales but also brought emphasis to our line of user products. Mor Electric's reputation of integrity and service has continued over 45 years and we have found our niche as respected authorities for electric heating application and design, controls and accessories. Our staff of 13 provides a diversity of skills and talent who contribute to the company’s successful synergy. We feel that the ability to adapt and change, recognize opportunities, and remain innovative in ideas and actions has kept us alive, thriving, and heading towards the third generation of ownership. |
